late Thursday into Friday's events

It seems like our days of visiting and heading out on the subway system always begins at Ueno Train/Subway station. So here is the offical picture to start off our next round of trips.
We are really beginning to enjoy this train station. It is a very busy hub for sub and train traffic. We will be using this train station to pick up the bullet train on Sunday, when we had to our next destination for visiting, and then on our way back, as we head out towards the airport for our return to Canada.


Last evening, we decided to go back to the Sensoji Shrine that we visited on Monday, to take some more pictures. We wanted to get some nice evening shots to add to our collection. This one has turned out very well!




Today being Friday, we did not have any visiting scheduled with our Japanese friends, but decided that we wanted to expand our travelling horizons a little and experiment. So what does this mean? We decided to take off from Ueno Station (see the first picture above) and head out on the Hibiya line to a section of the city that meant a 50 minute subway ride. It was the end of the morning rush hour, so the trains were fairly crowded for most of our trip, and at the station where we caught the train, there were still "pushers" there, but it did not appear that they were needed, as although the train cars were mostly full there was still some breathing room available.

One of the interesting aspects of wandering around Tokyo, without an offical guide directing our gaze hither and yon, we have noticed quite an influence on the store fronts on many roads. Can you find any such restuarants in this picture you would not normally assocaite when thinking of Japan? And no, there is not a Pineapple flavoured KitKat being offered as a prize.

It has been a rainy Friday, so other than heading over to this other district for a morning jaunt, we have stayed put at the hostel and taken a quiet day out. It has been extremely beneficial for both of us.

Now my eyes are getting tired, and I think I will pass this machine over to Ken, and I will prepare to settle in for the evening. Tomorrow we meet up with another Japanese friend, who also wants to show us some different sights before all of us meeting up with her parents at 630 for dinner.
